Darkness and decay
Do they ever really go away
Or are they always there silently sleeping
Tendrils stealthily creeping up to light
Seeping through the cracks that open
Us in the process of living
In order to take us deep
Bringing down night
And if the greatest hope of the spirit
Is to rise
And find its way to fly
Free of earthly shackles and foreboding doom
How painful does it feel
To be trapped inside a room
Become both cavern and dudgeon
But there is something too of the soul
That longs for depth
And feels more at home within
The breakdown of decay
That is just a necessary
If so often feared aspect of living
For as long as we are born on earth
We are both blessed and cursed
To partake of this great dichotomy
As round and rounds its central axis spin
The spiral of our double helix threads
One snake of energy ascending
While the other descends
Soul and spirit weaving our journey
As deep within
We feel the twin pulls
Of dark and light
