Trauma does not occur in a vacuum, it occurs in the context of relationships and also as the result of demands placed upon a person to achieve, often beyond the parameters of what is possible or healthy for the person. Sadly then the traumatized person then is judged and seen as deficient, not only by society but by the self.. These are things that are addressed in the following interview between Sarah Kanowski and Jonathan Seidler who not only suffered depression and mania but also had a father who struggled with mental health and a grandfather who suffered as a result of the Holocaust. His father’s constant need to escape can be understood in this context, and it resulted in suicide.
