She waits for you to hear
The heaviness she carried for so long deep inside
Trying to be perfect
To mother
To give her life and energy
For those who needed her care
When others around her turned their backs
No one will see the endless nights of worry
How despair nips at her heels
As the wild tides rise when she is trying to sleep
Just for some hours to find
The precious oblivion of forgetting
And so she turns to those who
Tell her without words that
Nothing about it makes any sense
How long ago did they become deaf
To this fevered heartbeat
Of emotional exhaustion
There is a pain she will carry
Silently inside of her
At being erased
In ways she could never fully understand
Or protest
There is a silence that will rise like a vapour
All around her
As her unspoken feelings fall into a deep ocean
And as she drowns in that silence
As her poor body seizes and releases
And tries time after time
To stand only to fall
Who will pick up the broken pieces then?
Who really will be there
To truly witness
Her truth
To affirm all she gave
To hold her trembling hands
With love?
