Life’s harsh lessons have taught me
That true happiness
Does not live outside
My soul
That all that glitters
With the appearance gold
May in time
Be tarnished by the mistake
Of believing in the dream of illusions
Becoming deeply lost
In the mixed up state
Of soul confusion
Life has taught me
Instead I must
Work with discipline to cherish well
Every single day
The happiness I find within
Those wonderful things
That feed my soul
Was it a ‘mistake’
That at the tender age of 17
Life derailed me anyway
Removing me from
The human race?
And even as I bemoaned
My outsider state
Believing in the lie
That happiness lay outside
Another part of me knew
That idea was no way close to
My soul reality
These days I find my meaning
In those nourishing and unchanging things
My soul honors :
The beauty of nature
The wisdom of the storm
The elegance of the blooom
The loyalty of the canine
The dancing candescent rhythms of
Soulful music and poetry
It is in these
I seek my peace
For the rest of the time
I remember to trust myself
That the only true happiness
To be found
Lies within
Through choosing to live
Centered deep within
The loving container
Of all of these
beloved,
mystical,
magical things
