If depression taught me anything
It is that life is precious
And that we all have a value
So often obscured by conditioning
By the pressure to toe the line
And assume a different shape
If contraction taught me anything
It was about the pure desire of my spirit to expand
To rise above the challenges and obstacles
Yet to earth
By growing down deep roots
Into the nourishing soil
Of my soul’s true home
If my tears taught me anything
They were mostly about longing and love
Even when those two illusive wishes
Seemed so lost to me
So now I am grateful to my depression
For all of the invaluable lessons
It taught me
And I would not trade a single day or night
Of my soul’s dark journey
So profound, and so true.

I believe it takes a lot of strength to have a perspective like that towards one’s struggles. Even if it just occurs in moments. I love this poem.
