This documentary : Embrace was made in 2016 by an Australian woman to bring attention to how women punish themselves and their bodies to live up to ideals. My heart broke for the young woman with serious anorexia who cried while saying how much she wished women did not have to starve themselves to appear attractive and of how her brother labelled ‘fat chicks’. While watching it one of the things Henri Nouwen said sprung to mind..it was along the lines that self rejection is one of the biggest wounds affecting humanity..
Taryn Brumfitt decided to travel around the world to meet women who responded to an online photo she posted of herself naked to bring attention to women’s body issues.. which began a media sensation. Ideals of beauty can be such a stranglehold for woman, what of the heart and soul that lives behind and within the body shining through the eyes of the person? It was sad to see so many young girls describing aspects of their body ‘disgusting’ but I am sure most of us have at some time hated or looked down on some aspect of our body…
The documentary Embrace can be viewed on Netflix.

Is it on You Tube? I can check for you.. to be honest it was hard going in some parts.. especially the parts on cosmetic surgery which I see as so evil on some level.. but its such a a critically important issue for women..
