I care about Helen Reddy

On the subject of being a ‘rude’ woman prepared to speak her mind the link below to an interview with Ray Martin on singer and feminist Helen Reddy who died recently appeared on my feed yesterday.. I was struck in particular by the comment shared below.

I asked whether she cared what Australians thought about her and she said ‘I really just care what Helen Reddy thinks about Helen Reddy. I have to live with myself.’

Martin shares how Reddy outraged American southern audiences by thanking God using the pronoun ‘she’ when accepting her Grammy award. Helen was a revolutionary thinker who was strong enough to stand by her views and knew her own power. She was able to say no to what didn’t sit well with her inner self, which is a quality I aspire to.
