Sometimes we struggle so hard
To find a heart of kindness
When the knives of the world cut
And lance the wounds of the soul
Sometimes it seems easier to strike back
Than to feel the sense of deep pain
That already lives on
Inside of us
From earlier times
And sometimes when others
Fail to see the underlying truth
Asking for proof
Instead of showing empathy
How can we reply
And not lose the way to
Our heart’s deeper
Wisdom and truth
Sometimes the world just hurts us
In the hurting place
And there is no disgrace
In feeling that pain
Sometimes the world i
Is just blind
To deeper realities
That lie hidden behind
Superficial appearances
And so at times
It is most especially necessary
To be kind to ourselves
To hold our own hand
Even as we count the cost
And not to allow the loss
Of all the desire and passion
We still possess
For how will it help us
If other’s unconsciousness
Convinces us to give up on life?
This is when we must
Find the strength
To dig even deeper for the courage
To stay strong and true
To the values of human love
Embracing imperfection
and human vulnerability
With tenderness
Emerging From The Dark Night
