Rise

A sense of peace

Lives in me

When I accept your will

There is no way

A heart could keep beating still

Unless you gave it life

And we too are made of love

Bought into being

By God only knows

What infinite

Force of creation

The negation of trust in a plan

Leaves us standing

Alone

Forsaken

Bereft

With empty hands

While the simple decision

To keep choosing life

Fills us with the power

To rise again

Even after being

Seemingly defeated

By suffering

So yes I believe

You gave me breath

Even as all of these

Manifold struggles and trials

Come to shatter me

And make me stronger

My trust in you

It helps me rise

And find the peace

That lives inside

When I decide to once again

Seek your will

And say ‘Yes’

This precious gift
