Was I ever real for you

A human being of flesh and blood

With needs, a history and feelings

Or was it just that you were so hurt

By those who failed to see you too

That all you knew how to do

Is barrel on through?

Am I strong enough to take the blows

That you dish out

And not take it too personally?

Maybe this wounding is meant

To set me free

For surely we are not always meant to live

Inside the wound

But use it as a message

Of where our true need and power

Always lay

Will be brave

And not defend too much

Just have the courage to walk away

From false places

For after all

When all is said and done

Was all of this illusion and shame

Really ours to take on
