To embrace one another

I cannot always know how it is for you

My heart is true

But sometimes I can only reach

This far

And am blinded by the limits

Of what I understand and project

Through my own filters

You see I know a bit about pain

A lot about shame

And then there is the love I feel

For everyone enduring these complex

And peculiar things

A difficult life

So often brings

So I will sit with you a while

And listen with my inner ear

And be grateful for the time you give to me

To unwind my mixed up feelings too

For in this human life

There is strife

But there is also this

The companionship

Of two hearts

Reaching out across the divide

To embrace one another
