Close to God

If it is God you want to come close to, then

look for the Divine in the hearts of everyone you meet.

Speak well of them all. Do this whether they are absent or present.

And if you want to be an example to other people,

then – just like the sun – you must show the same light to all.

To bring joy to one single heart is far better than building many shrines to worship.

To enslave one soul with kindness is far better than setting free a thousand slaves.

The true seeker sits in the middle of a crowd,

eats, sleeps, marries, buys, sells,

gets up in the morning,

gives and takes in the markets of life,

never forgets God for one single moment.
