Sometimes I fear
This is all I will ever know
A place grown cold
That death haunted
A series of glimpses of something more
That then recede further and further
Away from me
Leaving only the haunting longing
For a life that is nurturing, joyous and free
Some times I fear
That the warmth I glimpse
Will be stolen again
By death peering his ashen face
Around the corner
Reaching his icy tendril fingers
Towards my soul
As I feel the shiver of hope growing cold
Turned to dust
Like bones of my ancestors crushed
By loss
But is there hope for something more
You seem to offer me this warmth
Here you say is love unending
Thank you dear friend
But here along the road
I just pray there is another bend
Around which the sun shines
A field of open possibility
In which my inner child
Will one day
Find a place to dance
Drawing breaths that are sustaining
Finally broken free of that trance
The heavy weight and restriction
That steal her sense
Of joyous possibility
And heartfelt loving tender
Intimacy
