Dangerous for dogs?

I just came home from meeting a friend to find Jasper had polished off a entire block of Lindt Dark Chocolate with Almonds. If chocolate is toxic to dogs why is he now looking just fine? We used to feed our daschund Whiskey the broken pieces of After Dinner Mints that came out of packets we had for use at the restaurant Mum and Dad owned in the late 1960s. Whiskey ended up dying after being hit by a car. Does this put the lie to the fact chocolate is dangerous for dogs? Jazzie seems pretty happy this evening and I didn’t punish him. What’s the point? It won’t solve anything. Though I would have loved a square of that chocolate tonight!!!

"The religious naturalist is provisioned with tales of natural emergence that are, to my mind, far more magical than traditional miracles. Emergence is inherent in everything that is alive, allowing our yearning for supernatural miracles to be subsumed by our joy in the countless miracles that surround us." Ursula Goodenough How to describe oneself? People are a mystery and there is so much more to us than just our particular experiences or occupations. I could write down a list of attributes and they still might not paint a complete picture pf Deborah Louise and in any case it would not be the full truth of me. I would say that my purpose here on Wordpress is to express some of my random experiences, thoughts and feelings, to share about my particular journey and explore some subjects dear to my heart, such as emotional recovery, healing and astrology while posting up some of the prose/poems which are an outgrowth of my labours with life, love and relationships. If anything I write touches you I would be so pleased to hear for the purpose of reaching out and expressung ourselves is hopefully to connect with each other and find where our souls meet.

  1. No, it is no lie, just greatly overstated in terms of the amounts that lead to toxicity. This chart gives more info.

Better to not them have it at all.

Raisins and grapes, on the other hand, are the opposite. They can be deadly toxic, causing renal failure, and there is NO amount that is standard. A single grape can kill a Great Dane, or a Chihuahua can eat a whole bowl and have no issues. It is a veterinary medical mystery as to why. Much, much more dangerous than chocolate.

    1. He is actually fine and it was good quality chocolate and one of those super thin bars. Of course I have to be careful I put it on the dining room table forgetting he uses the chairs to climb on there when I go out. Never mind. It was a simple mistake (over sight) and he seems to be fine. Yes, I knew about raisins and grapes but one grape is fine with Jasper…
