What is it we don’t want to see?

This is a question I am asking myself after considering the horror some people go through in an attempt to be seen or the derision with which they are treated if they show a side others would rather not see which mars or runs contrary to other’s ideals of perfection. I watched a movie recently called The Music Within in which a Vietnam vet and activist made friends with a guy at University suffering from cerebral palsy. The CP guy was booted out of several places because he was apparently too ugly and distressing for others to look at. The entire thing made me both gobsmacked and angry.

But it happens a lot to people and its happening to people who really suffer and then to get to the point where your own sight is stolen well perhaps as my dear friend and fellow blogger Blind Zany Girl often says its when the outer sight is taken that our inner sight and seeing becomes far more acute especially into the heart of human darkness but also into the deeper spiritual side that can only only discover light through somehow finding a way to enter that darkness and birth light out of it from self love and forgiveness for the extent of human emotional blindness and ignorance.

With that in mind I recently came across a blog in which the following paragraph was shared.

In darkness, we are blinded as our eyes slowly adjust the best they can to dwindling light. Since sight is such a primary sense, when we can not see, we become frightened. The reason for this fear is that we place all of our trust in our outer senses and not enough faith or power with our inner senses. Our intuition, our sense of knowing, is the darkness that lives within us. Those “gut feelings” are the roots by which we are bound into the dark, fertile, nurturing source of our power. Darkness is the sheltered, untouched, internally realm within that is and has always been worthy.

It is interesting that this writer made a connection to fear because it took me a long time to throw off my own sense of outrage and shame when others would dismiss or refuse to see my grief or sadness or allow it a place. A few years ago a friend pointed out to me that other people were actually scared and didn’t really have the capacity to empathise. That was most definitely my fault in daring to show feelings that were not acceptable Not being empaths it may also have been difficult for them to understand a level of suffering or psychic contagion that we can have for others wounds and sorrows. Ideally we should try not to take these on and we can make a choice to keep limits around the empathy but still to be human is to be a sentient being who feels.

That our culture choses to deaden sense or compassion or whatever is a kind of darkness but not the generative creative kind. We collectively seem to forget that creation issues from decomposition and decay if the cycle is attuned to. If we can stay with the lack of control during that part of the process. Are we undergoing such a dark awakening collectively now? Its just a question to ponder.

"The religious naturalist is provisioned with tales of natural emergence that are, to my mind, far more magical than traditional miracles. Emergence is inherent in everything that is alive, allowing our yearning for supernatural miracles to be subsumed by our joy in the countless miracles that surround us." Ursula Goodenough How to describe oneself? People are a mystery and there is so much more to us than just our particular experiences or occupations. I could write down a list of attributes and they still might not paint a complete picture pf Deborah Louise and in any case it would not be the full truth of me. I would say that my purpose here on Wordpress is to express some of my random experiences, thoughts and feelings, to share about my particular journey and explore some subjects dear to my heart, such as emotional recovery, healing and astrology while posting up some of the prose/poems which are an outgrowth of my labours with life, love and relationships. If anything I write touches you I would be so pleased to hear for the purpose of reaching out and expressung ourselves is hopefully to connect with each other and find where our souls meet.
