Once in a while
Golden rays of sunlight
Pierce the indigo gloom
That surrounds the sorrowing soul
Taking refuge in her room
While all around
The ghosts of past experience dance
Leaving their sufferer
With head bowed and body broken
Locked in painful feelings
All covered over by trance
Set apart so far
From the healing comfort
Of life and light and love
But then all of a sudden
Out of the barren gloom
All of a sudden on a brighter afternoon
Rays of bronze appear
To fill the room
Piercing through the consciousness of a heart
That is longing so desperately
For an intimation of hope
To dispel the dark of doubt
Bringing a tentative glimmer
Of brighter times to come
And then for a golden instant
The soul will open itself
To draw the warmth inside
Through eyes grown clear
From all the tears we cried
