I long to love you

With a heartfelt love

That is soft and gentle

And only wants to bring comfort

In a world so often cold

As the rain loves the ground

While drenching the earth

As a feather down pillow

Loves the head it cradles

I long to love you as strong sun loves bare skin

Kissing it awake with golden hues

And the touch of healing warmth

But sometimes I know my love is more like a raging fire that burns

Full of passion and fury

Fed by who knows how many lifetimes of past wounds

And as I witness this fire

Take its toll

Something in my heart burns

For the pain I gave

Through giving vent

To the angry storm
