In the dark
So much is intensified
Due to lack of light
Thoughts circle and encircle the tormented soul
Who understands not its own confusion
And will never find liberation
Through thought alone
In the dark
Demons come to call
Unbidden
And there is the absence of the light to see
What grace there may be in a new day
When we can have the courage
To move forward from our prison of fear
So in the dark
I often ask for the light of God and truth
To shine upon my mind
Freeing me from shrunken corners
And darker thoughts
I ask for the wisdom to see rightly
And no longer be held hostage
By ghosts
