I
I never imagined the Academy would be enlightened enough to name The Shape of Water as best picture, but for some reason watching this decision this afternoon gives me some hope for humanity. I have heard a lot of critics who don’t seem to get what this movie is all about… it has been called melodramatic but I feel it taps into something deeper in our collective psyche at the moment. And I was just so thrilled to see Guillermo Del Toro receive acknowledgement this afternoon for his creative genius.
that’s amazing

I’m happy too, Deborah. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I admire Del Toro’s work.

I think its a masterpiece, Lee and its strong on the feminine element which is why I thought it was amazing that it beat movies like Dunkirk and The Darkest Hour. He is a very lovely guy Del Toro….

It was my choice for best pic, I loved it.
And you’re right, the critics were too busy dumbing down the point of this film to understand its deeper meaning, but what else is new.
Del Toro . . a genius indeed.

It actually the first of his movies I have seen.. so I have some catching up to do. I relate to him being born only 2 years earlier. And love the fact the movie was set in 1962…
