You are not crazy : help for sufferers of emotional abuse

The following post appeared on the site Pascale’s Healing Journey.  So many of us who got involved with an emotionally or psychologically abusive person were not aware at the time of what was happening due to the way the abuser operated.  Our feelings can be manipulated and we may be made to feel at fault for reactions of the other person which really have nothing to do with us.  In my own case coming out of such a relationship it has taken me about 7 years to recover and understand some of the dynamics and what made me vulnerable in the first place.

If you come out of such a relationship showing signs of mental illness or ‘craziness’ its not illness or craziness at all, just a natural reaction to the crazymaking of emotional abuse where you are undermined and disempowered.   The article referred to in Pascale’s post is essential reading and very helpful in validating your reality.  You aren’t crazy, but you do need lots of help to recover.

"The religious naturalist is provisioned with tales of natural emergence that are, to my mind, far more magical than traditional miracles. Emergence is inherent in everything that is alive, allowing our yearning for supernatural miracles to be subsumed by our joy in the countless miracles that surround us." Ursula Goodenough How to describe oneself? People are a mystery and there is so much more to us than just our particular experiences or occupations. I could write down a list of attributes and they still might not paint a complete picture pf Deborah Louise and in any case it would not be the full truth of me. I would say that my purpose here on Wordpress is to express some of my random experiences, thoughts and feelings, to share about my particular journey and explore some subjects dear to my heart, such as emotional recovery, healing and astrology while posting up some of the prose/poems which are an outgrowth of my labours with life, love and relationships. If anything I write touches you I would be so pleased to hear for the purpose of reaching out and expressung ourselves is hopefully to connect with each other and find where our souls meet.

    1. I am so glad it helped you. Emotional suffering appears as mental illness in some form or other…. the journey will show you the real you who longed and suffered inside and you can parent him or her again. Wishing you every blessing and courage on the journey. Hugs and love ❤
