Lion heart

Let me feel my heart

As it beats within my chest

Let me know what courage is

The truth that comes with knowing I am worthy

That my feelings make sense

That I have a right to exist

And to be

That there is hope

Even for a soul

Who so often felt all alone

As if she did not belong

Here on earth with you

Help me to tune so deeply in

To the lion’s roar that lives within this breast

Not as a defence

But as a cry of truth

Summoned up

From within the deepest centre of my essence

As soul

Let me know my pain has not been in vain

And to trust now

That I may be able to leave some of that pain behind me

Or use it to inform my entire being

With wisdom

With compassion

For all those who also struggle and suffer

Or feel dispossesed

Let me not look upon

All of these feelings

Sensations and sensitivies

As aberrations

But as gifts

And indicators of where

The buried life within me

Wants to live

Wants to express

Wants to rise
