Listening to what our emotions have to tell us.

This is another excerpt from Andrea Matthews book Letting Go of Good.  It explains how listening to, trusting and being guided by our internal emotions can help us to be more authentic to our inner Self :

We have been accustomed to thinking that our emotions can only be created in the outside world.  “You made me so angry.”  “He made me feel so inadequate.”  “She makes me so sad.” This language is so common that we do not even realise that we are attributing the power of our own internal messaging system to someone outside of us.  That is why this practice is so important.  We must begin to find the source of living within ourselves if we are to become genuine.

By praticising this statement, “My emotion is telling me that I….”, we turn more and more to our inner world as the source of our being.  That doesn’t mean that we will cease to be impacted by the actions of others and by the events and circumstances of our lives.  But it does mean that we will be able to take personal responsibility for  how we respond to these people, events, and circumstances.  Even more important is the fact that we will be able to get guidance from (our) internal messaging system.

When we think that our emotions are coming from someone or something outside of us, we think that emotions has come to tell us to do something about that person or that we are meant to control that circumstance or that somethign outside of us is supposed to fix it.  Rather, when we trust that our internal messages are meant to be to us, for us, and about us, we can then begin to listen for what WE need to do, think, say, hear, feel in order to make our lives better.  So when we are listening to the inner process, if we can remember to say “My emotion/intuition/discernment/desire is telling me that I…..” we will slowly get into the practice of trusting the Self for guidance.

"The religious naturalist is provisioned with tales of natural emergence that are, to my mind, far more magical than traditional miracles. Emergence is inherent in everything that is alive, allowing our yearning for supernatural miracles to be subsumed by our joy in the countless miracles that surround us." I could write down a list of attributes and they still might not paint a complete picture pf Deborah Louise and in any case it would not be the full truth of me. I would say that my purpose here on Wordpress is to express some of my random experiences, thoughts and feelings, to share about my particular journey and explore some subjects dear to my heart, such as emotional recovery, healing and astrology while posting up some of the prose/poems which are an outgrowth of my labours with life, love and relationships. If anything I write touches you I would be so pleased to hear for the purpose of reaching out and expressung ourselves is hopefully to connect with each other and find where our souls meet.
