How can we know
What lies beneath
In the deep wordless space of another soul?
All they have experienced
Now fallen just below the level of consciousness
Arising under cover of night in restless dreams
Twisting bodies to and fro
Some wounds go deep
And leave invisible scars
Some of us cover visible scars with make up
Hiding our very real humanity and inherent imperfection
Beneath
When really there is such beauty and depth
In all our scars, wounds and flaws
Testaments of a soul that has
Lived suffered and survived
We are the cracked vessels
That endured a raging fire
And such heat was all part of our becoming
Filling our souls so full of both terror and beauty
Our souls in bodies bear so much
So let us reverence
What lies hidden in the deep
In wordless places
Beyond skin
And remember
How many carry
So much
In silence
Beautiful and piercing.
