Ancestors I feel you

Can you feel me near you?

Does your spirit move when I move?

Are we close whether near or far

With all this remembering?

You carried me and the birth was quick

Once a cell inside you both

I multiplied

And with this multiplication mutated into someone else.

Some one who waited and watched

And dreamed and hoped and longed

For some thing far beyond what you could give

But still you gave each in your own way

And loved me

But not in the way I could feel until now

I needed so much more

Never a solid place to stand

Too much water under the bridge

A torrent carrying me on

To places and faces where I looked for freedom

But so unaware of the deep pain and old patterns

That flung me so far away

Until the inner tide pulled me back

Only to become a deluge

Wave upon wave

Will it ever stop?

Please set me free

The chains that bind can strangle

Or become the force that pulls me forward

At the end of this dark night

When my grieving is done

Will there be peace?

For as the witness

At times what I am asked to bear

Seems such a heavy burden

I struggle to breathe under its weight

And with each twisting and turning

I see how the past brought us to here

But now I need to find a new way

Ancestors

Let me go

As I let you know

Acknowledging all the pain and longing

You could not speak

As the witness

To that which is appears to be dead and gone

But still lives on

And is rising again to be recognised

And lived consciously in a new way

Let this tide of reckoning become

Not the flood that drowns me

But the ocean that carries me forward

To a new life

Which is the fulfilment and resolution

Of all you could not live

Wash me up on your shore again

And let me there live

In the sunshine or your ancestral light

And draw close to you again

On clearer starry nights

As you whisper to me again

Your hidden secrets on the breeze
