Overcoming the flood

We can emerge from this dark night

Into the brilliant sunshine of love

If we can only accept the darkness

If we can only remove the barriers

And defences against pain

You and I can travel down deep

And burn up within the fire

We can become the ones transformed

By and through suffering

We can find tenderness

Where before their was only brittle hardness

And we can find also

The courage to confront those defences in others

But wisdom to know

They can only exist behind a wall

And judge us who go down

As wrong in some way

Don’t let that poison your soul

Emerge

Emerge bright spirit

Into the sunshine of love

That is revealed

After the flood is overcome
