Listen
I am here always telling you
The way it is
And how you feel
But it is hard for me when you
Turn a deaf ear
It is not easy when the ones you loved
Were struggling
What else could you do but try your best
Not to add to any burden at all
To how they felt
And so it was you became confused
And turned away from deeply tuning in
To your self
To your needs
Sadly in this modern society
So often we glorify those who
Extinguish themselves
After their early death
Lovely words float through the air
And everyone marvels at how selfless the person
Was and how much they gave
And yet
Don’t we need
Most of all our own
Care
Attention
Affection
Approval
Tenderness
Nurture and love?
And buried anger
Frustration and need
Must after all
Eventually go somewhere
As the body silently screams
While we turn a deaf ear
Refusing to really truly
Listen
