nurture life

Breathing in

I only find freedom

As I let go

Of all of these ideas

Of who I thought I was

Breathing out

I create a space for something new to enter

Only as I surrender

The past

Seeking a way to loosen

The ancestral chains that bind me

I know now I was never free

Judgement clouded my vision

I could not see truth

Though I longed for it

Even more as I felt my chest tightening

In resistance to it

Your poem made me see

How at times I am so unfree

And only continue to participate

In that inward binding

So it is now

I remember to focus on my breath

To let go of thoughts

That lead me no where

And to focus my attention on something

Beautiful and real

Surrounding me

That wakes me up

From this unhelpful dream

As I search for the obvious gifts

That so often become

Oblivious

And commit myself

To nurture life
