I was brave I made it to my 10 am appointment with my new dentist. She is quite young and from Iraq or so I found out today, but her family also came to Australia via New Zealand.
I got major flashbacks as they gave me the numbing solution and the needles it was to Dad when they gave him that needle in early January and he went into a kind of immobilised state. He died a few days later. The grief today was huge but as intense as it felt I did manage to breathe through it and I didn’t need to share then and there about it though later after all the procedure was done I did mention my Dad.
I think my capacity to self regulate and not freak out as much is really improving and I’m not needing as much mirroring but I’m choosing far softer, kinder and more gentle people to be around these days. That makes all the difference in the world.
My gums do feel torn and sore as she said they would but I managed a healthy lunch of chickpea and quinoa salad with humus and roasted carrots. Jasper tried to block the drive as I left this morning, I think he knew something was up.
We had some good chats in between my dentist loves telephone calls and dislikes texts like me and is a real nature lover. I am glad I followed my instinct to swap dentists. Having dental stuff done is never going to be easy but that’s life. It’s good to have it behind me. Now I just need to get a new tooth put on my plate and I will be all set dental wise for the next little while, that’s a good feeling. Oh and the procedure ended up costing 120 less than they quoted. Another win!
A good change indeed! A dentist’s job is horrible.
