Those of us who get trapped in the freeze response to trauma or even learn to fawn or become a people pleaser our of fear, may learn not to move, we may learn to hold our breath and when things hurt or anger us it may be hard for us to find a way to release that anxiety or stress.
Peter Levine in his research on how animals respond to trauma found that following an upset or trauma an animal will naturally try to shake it off. Even if they go into a freeze state to prevent an attack or outwit a predator in time they will move out of it and shake their body in some way if not entrapped and prevented from doing so. If you own a dog you may have seen this happen if something threatens, disturbs or upsets your pet. This often does not happen for humans, as kids we may have been stopped from reacting or moving away from threat..so energy can remain trapped inside of us..
I found the following video doing some research on this topic this afternoon.. It is a fairly easy technique and one that you can use any time it only takes about 4 or 5 minutes but you can shake as much as you need to..
I hope this video is of some benefits to those suffering from PTSD or Complex PTSD.
