So many of us are not aware of the complex roots of our own trauma.. It is an investigation that I only started to become aware of wanting to pursue as my own understanding of how my own alcoholism manifesting out of trauma and my older sister’s similar struggles did in fact connect back epigenetically to traumas, loss and separations in the life of ancestors on my mother’s side of the family.
Mark Wolynn is a person who went a painful route leading him away from his own family onto a ‘spiritual pathway’ that began to become derailed when he started to go slowly blind. He speaks in another video I watched last night of sitting for days in meditation trying to pierce through his own pain to becomes ‘enlightened’ while existing only on one bowl of rice.. In time he waited to have a session with his ‘guru’, after waiting in line for some time, when Mark finally met his ‘teacher’ he simply looked Mark deep in the eyes and said to him “go home and make peace with your parents”. This started a journey for Mark that led to so much understanding on inherited trauma (abandonment in the life of his grandparents), and over a course of time has seen him help countless people struggling with the painful effects of past family traumas that went silent and caused changes in the DNA of the sufferers only to be passed down and manifest in anxiety, depression, emotional disconnection and cut offs as well as many other forms of struggle in interpersonal relationships.
I have shared a lot of info from Mark’s book It Didn’t Start With You in the past but his videos contain a lot of useful information as well as expanding upon other cases he has come across.. The one I am sharing below is of Mark in conversation with author Greg Archer and contains insights into healing the fragmentation of trauma, neuro-plasticity, and genetic changes in the brain leading to challenges in relating.. It makes very very fascinating listening.
One of his major insights.. Trauma is not personal and it blocks the flow of love (from parent to child.)
