Allowing the missing of you

I will allow myself to miss you

It is not something that has always been easy

For me to do

Taught as I was to turn away from my own

Feelings of longing, need and love

When they just forgot all about me

And my need to be held

Some will say to feel and express these feelings

Is a sign of weakness

That we need to turn away from this

And no longer be like little children

So what happens then to our hearts

Do we just learn a hundred ways

To split off from connection

Yo set ourselves apart?

Closing the door

And throwing away the key

Deciding instead

To retreat into the safer ivory tower

We find inside our heads?

I do not know

For not all souls were as abandoned

So

For now I will just allow these feelings

To flow on through

Because this allowing shows me

A deeper truth

That when you are gone

My missing of you

Proves

How valuable your love

Kindness and affection

Is

And how much

It means to me
