Trauma steals so much
Making us contracted, hypervigilant and frozen
Meanwhile a sense of fully engaged vibrant life
Passes us by
And fills us with fear
As inwardly we silently grieve
For a way of living we only sensed
But never really knew
And yet the longing is still there
Buried underneath
With desires to be curious
To move
To open
And to embrace
But trapped endlessly
Within our prison of ‘safe’ space
How can we be open
To the new
How can we feel free and safe to move
How can we risk the chance to embrace
Only through an expansion
Moving out of
Of contractions
And sometimes by
The deepest fall into a grieving
For what we only sensed
But became over time
Through the hurt of trauma
Seemingly impossible
To move towards
To open to
And to embrace
