Therapy days make me reflective.. At times I question the wisdom of going back into past pain, after all that pain is gone even if its remnants live on in us and can so easily be triggered in the now.. The source of healing or feeling complete lately rests more though in being able to find that place of peace that exists beyond the affects of trauma.. Eckhart Tolle talks often about the ego’s need to create a defined or identified experience or state of being, this definition becomes something we often choose without often even being aware of the fact we are choosing it… Past pain exists for sure and may never be overcome but present moments of peace and stillness and even wholeness can be found. I had a lovely one of these last night lying by the fire listening to the flames while Jasper lay tenderly with me hip to hip in the near silence.. For some time there were no thoughts, just pure moments of being and peace
Such moments may not last but they should give us hope that something within us which is far deeper is on some level untouched or undefined by the circumstances or past circumstance of our life. Eckhart gives the name ‘presence’ to such moments and that state of intelligence a ‘primordial’ wisdom rather than a mind dominated by conditioned knowledge and thinking alone. He reminds us that we are more than just our history…even though our history leaves powerful imprints.. We can choose how to relate to them and we can choose not to continue to think about them over and over and allow them to completely define our present state of being. As he says the highly conditioned mind can easily create so much destruction both in our lives and the lives of others.
