Tidal rivers flow
All around the drowning soul
Memories of authenticity growing deeper
With the losing of the way to our own reality
Distance seems to separate our aching hearts
Keeping us apart from any kind of tenderness
As we wander lost in a world of strangers
Never knowing how to find the way back home
No one will know the emptiness we navigated
Vast expanses where it felt too painful to live or breathe
How we became too exhausted by unreconciled longing and grief
To even sleep
No one will understand
Because this is a journey we must undertake alone
But our angels will never desert us
And it will not be until many years later
That we will see how close they were
How many times they helped
How often they carried us
Even when we felt
Most betrayed, forgotten and alone
Because in truth
These were the wilderness years
During which our souls existed
So very far from any form of human aid
