When your vulnerability opens
You will understand how powerless you were
Do not expect to be applauded
For giving expression to this truth
Once you were a child
You did not choose to be born
You had no control at all
Over whether love was expressed or withheld
But there is a healing now
That you can embrace
When you chose to face the truth
Of how vulnerable you really were
Then
Sadly you will begin then to see
How many and society
Choose to scapegoat the vulnerable
And those who bear the scars
For wounds no longer visible to the eye
It takes a strong heart
And so much courage not to turn away
To look this darkness in the face
So do not expect to feel a part of the crowd
For some the journey leads into years of darkness
And this is not a society
That really chooses to honor
The honest path
Or show empathy to the victims
Who bear the scars
Those shamed, abused, betrayed and abandoned
Who were once so
Absolutely vulnerable at heart
