Loneliness can be the feeling of
Having no one much there to care
As well as that sense that those around you
Do not really see or feel
Into the depths of you
Loneliness may be contained
In frozen memories of a past
Where you met the brick wall of defence
A feeling bereft wilderness
Instead of the open arms
Of acceptance, understanding and love
A hurtful screen of anger or apathy
Instead of a mirror
Leaving you to feel you were
So far from home
Or falling through space
Loneliness can haunt the now
Even when there is a room full of people
Calling out your name
Because of the doubt
Is it really you they see?
Loneliness always asks something
Of us
A presence with what is
Rising up
A way of being that says
‘Yes’
Even as every single old memory
Of being unmet
Shouts
‘No’
Loneliness asks of you
Is there anyone home
Deep inside your soul
To feel
Embrace and fully own
The myriad expressions and reflections
Of the truth of your soul
