I had the blessing of listening to this soul full interview with Elaine Pagels last night on the ABC radio program Soul Search. I was first interested in Elaine’s writing back in the 90s when I came across her work on the hidden gospels of Jesus… I loved the message (often erased from my Catholic education and the Bible) that connection to the divine came from within and through deepening to inner knowing (or gnosis.)
I was not aware of her early upbringing that was steeped in her father’s scientific bias, nor of the fact she had undergone such significant losses in her life, including the death of her son at 6, which only make her writing, opinions and experience more powerful and interesting to any of us struggling to make meaning of our grief and find containers of healing through inner connection, ritual and meditation.
