My wish

My wish for a world that cares

May never come true

And sometimes my heart may break

From all of the divisions we create

To create illusions of a power

We can never fully possess

As long as we stay divided

Yes I too know that black lives matter

But so do the lives of all of those

Whose hearts ache

Or minds break

Under the heavy weight

Of unlove

There is a sadness I see deep down inside

Your eyes

It makes my heart cry

Silent tears

It saddens me that never in a million years

Can you understand how precious you are

But I know this too

Sometimes the world can be such a lonely place

And then we look for that face

With eyes that will see so deeply into our soul

How many years has it taken me to

Truly know

That I must find those eyes inside

To validate me each and every time I cry

While digging as deep as I can

To excavate

The empowering voice

That each day encourages me

To open up and keep on living

Even through those times

Of deepest sorrow

Seemingly endless lonelieness

When inner voices try to say

There is no point

I must summon the strength

To try again

Never giving up

Digging deeper each and every day

To find the energy

To walk forward

With my heart open

On the path of love
