Challenge

Some days it is a challenge

to contain

all of this pain

the pressure of being alive

in a world where we so often

dive into an ocean tumultuous

where boundaries dissolve

as mirrors shatter

under the weight of water

When I hear from you

It is a double edged sword

of longing and disappointment

I swallow

amidst talk of food and movies and cars

how do our hearts

find any way to speak at all

I wished for so much more

But wishes formed in the crucible of neglect

have an invisible splinter

hidden deep inside them

And when we open our heart to this

is it any wonder

we feel pain

and unravelling the deeper truth of it all

is so hard

for at times it is just

such a challenge to contain

all of this mixed up feeling
