God give me the strength to bear

The hardness of some human beings

The absence of a sense of care

Or empathy for the soul inside a soul

That so longs for tenderness

To be seen

To find a home

Help me to realise that not everyone in this life

Knows how to be kind

There are those who only want to shut the door

On things they find impossible to see or bear

Grant me the wisdom to know

What from the past

Cannot be changed

Help me to reframe a litany of despair

Into a blessing

That finds a denied sense of possibility

Even in the place

Of hardest lessons

And when my heart breaks

Let it be a breaking

That opens me to contain

More of life

More wisdom

That finds the inner gold in strife

The gift of resilience

Awakened

Through despair
