Shadows grow

Sometime shadows grow

Outside your window

And in your heart

Those tough times from the past

Just come calling

Here in the dark

You light a spark of pain

And sometimes shards of sorrow

Lance you again and again

But there is no way to run from

What was done to you

Or what you did

In trying to make it through

And so it is at times

There is a storm that rises

Like an evil tide

Inside of you

And you have no other choice

Than to let it carry you

Where it will

So impossible to still

At times

This heaving ocean of the past

That surges and swells

Inside of you

And this is when you feel again

The burning helplessness

There is no other choice

But to surrender to

For a time

For these things

That come as hauntings

Are the ghosts that wont recede

When loneliness or immobility

Besieges you

Pulling you so far away from life

Nothing then to do

But surrender

Till they pass on through

Awakening what new understanding

Most needs to be known

And find a home

Deep inside of you
