“The greatest test of courage on the earth
is to bear defeat without losing heart.”
R. G. Ingersoll

Take my breath
Remind me how it feels to live
Without tenderness
Here within a world of those
Whose hearts froze
For the want of it
Wake my heart
From this broken dream
Remind me how it feels
When all of my energy leaves
When I am drawn to those
Deathly places
For my body feels it all
And it recoils from the ice of life
Here within the unthawing
Is the awakening
And the rose whose petals
Fall
Still knows the taste of summer
Even as it surrenders
Those petals
To the ground
For God knows
There may be life still to be found
In what is dying
When we surrender the flying
And submit our weary
Souls to becoming for a time
Earth bound
