Just listened to another great Lisa Romano video on being ‘too nice’ where she outlines some of the characteristics of those of us who tend to be abused or open up to be overly caretaking of others and their feelings and opinions… You can have a listen to the video below.
One of the traits that really resonated for me was that issue of consistently apologising for things that are not our fault, or fawning in the place where we feel unnecessary guilt or shame. For example, to you apologise when someone bumps into you? Lisa mentions also the issue of collapsed body posture common to those of us who tend to get put upon or struggle with self esteem, taking on the unnecessary burdens of others.. The truth is we don’t have to apologise for who we are or prove our worth, and a degree of conflict in life helps us to articulate who we are, what we want and where we stand in life.
I do this so often. The amount of energy I waste doing it. But it’s so hard to stop.
