Promises you made

Heartfelt feelings of longing

That never had the chance to materialise

Float around the edges of my mind

And the last thing I want

Is to be unkind

But so often

Life does not work out as we planned

And it was you who offered the hungry soul in me

The chance to hope

That just for once

Maybe I could depend

On another human being

And when it fell apart

How could I not break

You see I had to let go

Because sometimes aloneness

Self dependence is all I have ever known

So now that everything has changed

Dont treat my struggle so blythely

You see I am only a human girl

Not an angel

And I just cannot treat this pain so lightly
