Deep inside my heart
A thousand tears I cried
And you will never know the reasons why
For in the silence
These crosses are mine to bear
The intersections of spirit and matter
Within the horizontal and vertical planes
Of what is shattered
Or scattered to the winds
Tear upon the soul
For only heaven knows at times
The path we follow
And how often its tangled way
Disappears along the journey
And all I hear that resonates now
Is the ocean breathing
While I feel the impact
Of all the leavings
Watching as though so many boats were wrecked
Within the storm
(not just a powerful metaphor)
As memories call
Floating up to the surface
Amidst the storm
Only this I know
For sure
There is no turning back
And what ever the cost or weight of it
We must press on
For living asks this of us
To surrender what was done to God
And live on
With forgiveness for the whole of it
Breaking open like a wave
Deep inside the stormy ocean cavern
Of our heart
