Inside the blue flame
You said my name
With such reverence
Reminding me to stay
Close to the path of love
Even admist the most horrendous of pain
You suffered
From the wounds they gave
To you
Enduring the trial
Of your own cross
And even then you understood because you said
Father forgive them
For they know not what they do
You came too
As an awakener
That forces of repression
Tried to put to death
But you reminded me long ago
That in time your spirit rose again
After your ordeal with fire
And death by water
So again this afternoon I heard your words
She who is close to me
Is close to the fire
And as the Sufis say
Love is a fire
Burning the soul clean
Reshaping us through those wounds
We so often fear
We can never have the capacity
To fully contain
For when we reach for you
Your love and strength is always there
Only as close
As a prayer
