If just for a moment our souls touched
As river’s flow met
Stream to stream
Flowing effortlessly together
Extending the sense of our being
To give us
If only for some moments
A feeling of
Connection to the wholeness
Of the source
What a gift
For the heart that lay
So often
Bereft in its sorrow
Destroyed and vacated
By any hope of
A brighter tomorrow
Such moments
Were often
Just enough
To breathe life
Into the heart that seemed
To lay dying
And yet
When the connection departed
And we were once again left
In that vast and yawning emptiness
Did we not also sometimes
Still manage to find the way home
By following our inner river’s flow
For moments of connection showed
That what lived inside of us made sense
For the truth is
We do not always
Live in a world bereft
Of care or connection
But such moments are fleeting
And surrender must therefore attend
Both their arrival
And their fleeing
