On the outside

On the outside is often all I know

Of life

Trouble and strife

That blocked the way forward

To happiness

So that now when the call comes

To be a part of the inside

I do not quite know how to respond

And my body fights

Because this is not the way of things

You wanting to bring me in

Close to your heart

Watch the dust settle as I run

Away from what is not familar

Watch as your tears fall to the ground

When the only sound you hear

Is of the wind

Roaring inside your ears

Feel the pain rising

As emptiness fills your heart

And you wonder

What the hell went down

Is the sound

Of your own heart
