Suddenly this poem
Sprung fully formed
From my head
Just as Pegasus
Opens his wings
My soul sings
Its homages and laments
To yesterday
Between these spaces of silence
The majesty and mystery of life
Brings
Wisdom to the soul that stood
So often sodden to the brim
Within the pool of its own tears
And there will be a way
Over all these years
To make some meaning of it all
Even as the late evening shadows grow
All around you
In your middle years
As you count the cost of what was lost
Considering well the spaces left
From which new life sprung
Knowing
Ahhh
This is why
It all came undone
