The haunting silhouettes
Of spectral trees remind me of
How alone you stood
With your arms reaching skyward
Hoping even for the slightest fall of rain
Or touch of the softest breeze
To soothe the lonely heart within
You were force to bury
Deep beneath your skin
In a world that so sadly
Never really saw
The deeper story hidden within
Your suffering
Was this your strange destiny
To live a life where
So many passed you by
Without a glance
Treating you as if
You did not even exist?
And yet on those dark and silent nights
When you so quietly cried
I know the whole of nature
Felt you bleed
Echoing in sympathy
With your shattered betrayal
A tragic destiny
And in those most lonely of moments
The dark forces of love
Held your wounded spirit
Close
Even as the whole world
Fell asleep
Passing you
And your suffering by
As if within a frozen trance
Never offering your soul
The slightest glance
